NNTP service:

NNTP service is available via the webboard. In order to use NNTP, you must first register for a webboard account, and then log in with your web browser to verify your account. At that time, you can change your assigned password to a personal one by going to the More> Edit Profile option in the webboard interface.

Once you have your account and have set your password, you can then proceed to the next step of setting up your newsreader (such as Outlook Express).

Setting up your newsreader:

There is a NNTP service available for the Autodesk Media & Entertainment product discussion forums.

Here are the steps to access the discussion forums through a newsreader (steps below use Outlook Express):

1. Open the Internet Accounts dialog (Tools> Accounts) in Outlook Express
2. Go to: Add > News...
3. Type in the name you want displayed in messages posted on the newsgroup (example: "Autodesk newsgroups")
4. Click ‘Next’ to continue
5. Type in your email address: click ‘Next’ to continue
    - For the name of the NNTP news server, type: support.discreet.com – select the option "My news server requires me to log on"
    - For the 'Account Name' and 'Password', type in the login name and password you currently assigned to your webboard account; click ‘Next’ to continue
6. Click ‘Finish’ to finish setting up your newsreader account
7. In the Internet Accounts dialog, you should now see "discreet.support.com" in the list of servers (type news (default))
8. Click ‘Close’ to exit the dialog
9. Outlook Express should now ask if you want to download the newsgroups from the news account you just added – click ‘Yes’
10. In the newsgroup listing, you should see the various product discussion forums that have an available NNTP option – select the groups to subscribe
11. Click ‘OK” to finish

You now have access to the webboard forums through the NNTP server using Outlook Express.

File attachments:

File attachments are allowed (in some cases) to a maximum of 1MB per attachment in the Art Gallery conference and 200kB in other conferences (where allowed). You can help to prevent messages from being archived by compressing images and attachments (using Winzip only) - please contact the Moderator for further information.

Troubleshooting:

The most common problem is with firewalls. The Autodesk discussion forums use a standard news server port of 119. If you are unable to connect and are behind a firewall, check with your system administrator to see if port 119 is open.

If you encounter problems with connecting, please wait to see if the connection returns. If the server fails to respond for more than one hour, please contact the webboard manager.
